CBT and Mindfulness
There are times when difficult thoughts, feelings or experiences can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure how to move forward.
Therapy can offer a space to understand what you are experiencing, reflect on the patterns that may be keeping difficulties going, and explore different ways of responding.
I offer evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based approaches, tailored to your individual needs and the difficulties you would like support with.
I work with adults experiencing a range of psychological difficulties, including:
Depression and low mood
Generalised anxiety and worry
Panic attacks and panic disorder
Social anxiety
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Health anxiety
Specific phobias
You don't need to know exactly what type of therapy you need before getting in touch. We can discuss what you are experiencing and consider whether the approaches I offer are appropriate for you.
CBT is an evidence-based psychological therapy that can help us understand how our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviours are connected.
Therapy begins by developing a shared understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing and what may be keeping them going. We then work collaboratively to explore and practise different ways of responding, both within and between sessions.
CBT is an active and practical approach, but therapy is tailored to you. We will agree together what you would like to work towards and regularly reflect on how therapy is progressing.
Mindfulness involves learning to pay attention to our experiences in the present moment, with greater awareness and less judgement.
It can help us notice when we become caught up in difficult thoughts, emotions or familiar patterns, and develop a different way of relating and responding to these experiences.
I draw on mindfulness-based approaches within therapy where appropriate and also offer Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression (MBCT-D), an evidence-based approach specifically developed to help people with recurrent depression.
I'm Jemma, a BABCP fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with 19 years experience working with adults experiencing a range of psychological difficulties.
Alongside my private practice, I work part time within the NHS delivering individual evidence-based psychological therapy, as well as supporting and supervising other therapists.
My approach is warm, collaborative and compassionate. I believe that therapy works best when we develop a shared understanding of your experiences and work together towards what matters to you. I aim to provide a space where you can feel comfortable exploring difficulties at your own pace, while also offering the structure and practical focus that can be helpful in therapy.
My practice draws primarily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and mindfulness-based approaches, with therapy tailored to your individual needs and goals.
